Cape Verde currently has three international airports on the islands of Sal, Santiago and Boa Vista, and the fourth one will be opened on Sao Vicente in November 2006.
There are currently two airlines providing direct flights to Cape Verde from a number of major European cities, including Lisbon, Madrid, Milan, Munich, Amsterdam and Paris. These are TAP Portugal and Cape Verde’s national airline TACV.
Direct flights to Cape Verde from the UK will be introduced in November 2006, bringing flight time down to about 5 and a half hours. This will strengthen Cape Verde as the closest and most accessible tropical islands to Europe and bring many more tourists to the islands.
The number of flights to Cape Verde is steadily increasing as more airlines plan to introduce several new routes in the near future. Cape Verde will be operating an open skies policy, allowing for increased competition among airlines and resulting in more competitive fares.
Cape Verde’s national airline, TACV, operates internal flights to all the inhabited islands except for Brava, which can be accessed by ferry from Fogo island. TACV offers flight passes on multiple internal flights, so be sure to ask about this offer when making your reservation.
